Pendle Witch Guided Tour and Ribble Valley Our expert historian, Simon Entwistle,
joins us to bring to life this haunting story. At the Pendle Heritage Centre, you can see
an exhibition telling the story of the Pendle Witches, before stopping at Clitheroe. It is
believed that the accused witches were held in the dungeons of Clitheroe Castle for
one night, on their way to Lancaster Castle. We discover this historic castle where the
accused witches were held and put on trial. As we follow in their footsteps, you will
also experience the breathtaking beauty of Ribble Valley.
Lancaster Castle he castle has stood for around 1,000 years and has witnessed
scenes of significant historical, cultural and political importance throughout the
centuries. It was also the place the Pendle Witches were incarcerated before their trial
in 1612. 10 were found guilty of witchcraft, sentenced to death and hanged on the
moor above the town.
